Spanish for Healthcare Professionals
More than 35 million U.S. residents now speak Spanish. As the Hispanic population continues to grow, so does the need for healthcare workers who speak Spanish. Don’t let language and cultural barriers interfere with your ability to provide high quality care! Now there’s a Spanish course designed specifically for medical professionals that will help you:
- Make a personal connection with patients and their families
- Facilitate patient orientation
- Assess patient comfort
- Gather and convey basic information
- Inform and instruct about basic procedures
- Prepare the patient for discharge
- Question patients about their symptoms
- Conduct physical examinations
- Give follow up instructions
No previous experience necessary. No textbook required, handouts will be provided. This course is taught by Silvi Galmozzi, an experienced medical translator and Spanish teacher.
Sessions – Spring 2020
Healthcare workers are some of the busiest people we know. That’s why we designed this course to fit your schedule. This four-week course meets twice a week from 5:30pm to 6:30pm Tuesdays and Thursdays. Spring Session I will meet from March 31-April 23. Spring Session II will meet from April 28 – May 21. Accelerated Introductory Spanish I – NEW!
Accelerated Introductory Spanish is an accelerated introductory course for speakers of French, Italian or Portuguese, or for students who have studied some Spanish in the past and need a refresher course. In this course we will cover the equivalent of introductory levels I and most of Spanish II within the 8-week period.
You will learn about a variety of topics, such as your family, your likes/dislikes, food and hobbies and your daily routine. You will also be able to give directions, order in a restaurant, read menus, talk about past experiences and future plans.
Sessions – Spring 2020
Accelerated Introductory Spanish will meet every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 4:30-5:30pm from April 1 – May 21. The course will be capped at the first 10 students to register, so please register at least one week in advance. You can email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have questions.
Introductory Spanish I
Introductory Spanish I is designed for students who have never taken a Spanish class before. At the end of the course you will reach basic proficiency in writing, reading, speaking and listening in Spanish. You will be familiar with a variety of topics, such as your family and friends, your likes/dislikes, food and hobbies and your daily routine. You will also be able to give directions, order in a restaurant, read menus and brochures and talk about the time.
This course is designed for you to finish your day by learning something new in a comfortable and fun environment.
We currently do not have any session of Introductory Spanish open. We plan to run an intensive introductory Spanish course in summer 2020 so check back for future details. You can email email@example.com if you have any questions.
Spanish for Kids
Starting in January, we will hold after school Spanish immersion classes. Spanish for Kids is designed to provide a fun and immersive Spanish language learning opportunity for youth in grades 2-5. We will play games, learn songs, dance, read stories, and craft while using the Spanish language. The after school immersion program is limited to 10 students, so please sign up in advance.
Winter Session 2
Spanish for Kids Winter Session 2 will begin Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning February 18th from 3pm-4pm and will continue for 5 weeks.
You can sign up your child to attend either Tuesdays or Thursdays, or both days of the week. When registering for the program through the website, please be sure to specify which days you would like your child to attend the program when you checkout. We will also offer sessions in the spring if there is demand.
Early registration cost: $60 for the 5 week session ($12 per class). Early registration deadline is February 5th.
Regular registration cost: $75 ($15 per class). Regular registration deadline is February 18th.

Yoga en Español
Yoga? Yes! Want to practice your Spanish? Yes! This workshop is for you. There is no better way to learn a language than by putting it into action! This yoga series is taught by a certified yoga teacher and will enable you to finish your day with a practice for your mind and body by reinforcing your Spanish language skills. This class will be a Vinyasa flow for all levels inviting yoga-skeptics, short-term and long-term yogis. The class will be a fun mix of strengthening, stretching and breathing with options to cater different levels of students. Let’s move our body through the Spanish language!
This class is an introductory seven week series and will meet on Wednesdays from 4-5pm from February 5th-March 18th. It will take place at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (61980 Skyline Ranch Rd). The cost per class is $12 or free for congregation members of UUFCO.
