Introductory Mandarin Chinese I

Mandarin is the fastest growing language in the world and important for international travel and business, or if you just want to learn more about Chinese history and culture. This eight-week course is designed to target individual student’s needs, learning styles, and interests. It is taught by a native Mandarin speaker who can help you with pronunciation and everyday expressions.

Sessions – Winter 2020

Introductory Mandarin Chinese I will meet every Wednesday and Thursday morning from 9:30-10:30 from January 14 – March 5. In addition, the instructor will be available to meet before each class to help with individual students. The course will be capped at the first 10 students to register, so please register at least one week in advance. You can email bendlanguageinstitute@gmail.com if you have questions.

Mandarin for Kids

Mandarin for Kids is beginning in Winter 2020! Mandarin for Kids is designed to provide a fun and interactive learning environment for youth in grades 3, 4, and 5. We will play games, draw, sing, all while learning words and the basics of writing in the Mandarin language. The after school immersion program is limited to 10 students, so please sign up in advance.

Winter Session 1

Mandarin for Kids will begin Monday, January 13th, Wednesday, January 15th and Friday, January 17th from 4:30-5:30pm and will continue for 5 weeks. We will also offer a Winter Session 2 class that will begin February 17th, so kids can sign up for back-to-back sessions.

You can sign up your child to attend either Monday, Wednesday, or Friday classes — or any combination of these days! When registering for the program through the website, please be sure to specify which days you would like your child to attend the program.

Early registration cost: $60 for the 5 week session ($12 per class). Early registration deadline is December 6th.

Regular registration cost: $75 ($15 per class). Regular registration deadline is January 8th.

The Language of Chinese Food

Perhaps everyone has tried Chinese pot stickers at a Chinese restaurant, but did you know that authentic dumplings in China are very different from the ones you have tried here? In this course we will learn different traditional recipes through the Chinese language and eat our delicious food. If you like Chinese food and want to expand your food vocabulary in Mandarin, please come to our class!

Sessions

I graduated with a degree in law in China before moving to Bend, Oregon in 2005. Upon moving to Oregon, I started teaching Mandarin to both young children and adults. Teaching has now been my profession for the last 14 years. The saying, “Being a teacher means being a good teacher,” has become part of my nature. I love teaching my native language to people and working with them on a daily basis. I like to make language learning fun and I hope to meet you soon!
