River Ecology in Spanish Workshop

Experience a fun day in nature while learning about ecology and expanding your Spanish language vocabulary in a natural history context. In this 3-hour workshop, students will slowly walk along the Deschutes River with their guide, environmental scientist and Spanish instructor Armando Alcalde. During our walk, we will identify species, explore freshwater ecosystem concepts and discuss regional watershed topics. We hope to inspire appreciation and respect for natural environments while improving our language skills.

This class is designed for intermediate to advanced Spanish speakers. Discussions will be held in Spanish with English translations when necessary. Adults and youth ages 12+ are welcome to attend. This workshop will be held Sunday, August 1 from 10am-1pm and is limited to 10 students. The cost is $60. Come join us!

Armando Alcalde
Armando AlcaldeInstructor —Spanish
I was born in Caracas, Venezuela into a Cuban family. We moved to the USA when I was young and I was raised in an English/Spanish bilingual household. Currently, I reside part time in Spain and part time in Bend, OR.

I have a B.S. in Zoology and an M.S. in Environmental Health Science and work as a environmental scientist/biologist, ski instructor and musician. I teach classes in both Spanish and English in all three disciplines and also tutor Spanish students. I am passionate about sharing the beautiful Spanish language. We will get to know one another, share stories, laugh and develop our language skills in a supportive and fun educational environment.

¡Bienvenidos a todos!
