Japanese Film (Beginner/Intermediate Level)
Besides samurai, geisha, and the wild world of anime, what do you really know about Japan? In this 4-week course we will view a selection of post-war Japanese films, both classic and contemporary, to deepen our knowledge of Japanese society as a whole. Students will view one film a week and come together for a Zoom session where we will cover that week’s movie, its background, and related Japanese. This course will be tailored to beginner to intermediate level speakers, and its contents will focus on the skills needed to understand, comment on, and critique films as well as their context. This course is specifically designed for youth ages 12-17.
