French III

In this fun French III class, we will strengthen students’ knowledge of French while increasing oral/aural and writing /reading proficiency through texts, songs, videos and other various authentic sources. By the end of the class you should feel confident to speak and write about a variety of topics in more details, such as future travel plans, the weather and related activities, personal relations and emotions, using new grammatical tools such as the imparfait, direct and indirect object pronouns, among many others.

French III is designed for students who have taken a French II class or equivalent before. This means that students should already know

  • Grammar-wise: the present tense of -ER, -IR and -RE verbs, high frequency irregular verbs such as aller, faire, pouvoir, vouloir etc, pronominal verbs and the passé composé with avoir and être.
  • Theme-wise: food, colors, leisure activities, clothes, family and friends, as well as your likes/dislikes.

Sessions – Summer 2020

French III will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:45-6:45pm from July 20 – September 9. We plan to meet at our outdoor classroom space when the weather is nice or at BLI, but will move our class to Zoom if needed. The class is limited to 10 students so be sure to sign up in advance.

Meet your instructor!

Marlène Rodrigues
Marlène RodriguesInstructor — French
Bonjour! I was born in Pau, France. I studied English Literature at the Université de Nancy II where I graduated with a B.A. I spent two years abroad while preparing for that degree, one in Birmingham, England and one in Muncie, IN. I moved to California and earned a M.A in French literature from UC Santa Barbara, and a few months before my first daughter was born, I earned a M.A in Linguistics from California State University, Northridge. I am a life-long learner and am currently learning Spanish while also teaching French at COCC. I can’t wait to teach you at the Bend Language Institute and am looking forward to meeting many new friendly faces. A bientôt!
